Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of sharing sensitive information about Indian Army movements during Operation Sindoor with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The accused, identified as Gagandeep Singh, was detained from Tarn Taran district. According to Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Singh had been in contact with Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla, and had been sharing classified military details with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).

Yadav said the arrest followed an operation based on inputs from Punjab’s Counter Intelligence unit. The police recovered a mobile phone from Singh that contained strategic intelligence and contact details of over 20 ISI-linked individuals.

In a post on X, the Punjab DGP wrote: “Acting swiftly on information received from Counter-Intelligence-Punjab, Tarn Taran Police, in a joint operation, arrested Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, Tarn Taran. The accused had been in contact with Pakistan’s ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during Operation Sindoor.”

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Singh was involved in relaying details such as troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a significant threat to national security, Yadav added.

The DGP said Singh had been in touch with Chawla for over five years.

It is alleged that through Chawla, he was introduced to Pakistani operatives and received payments routed via Indian channels.

“Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network,” Yadav said.

A case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at City Police Station, Tarn Taran. The investigation remains ongoing.
