Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is set to visit the United States from September 8 to 10. During this trip, he will engage with various audiences in Washington D.C. and Dallas, including a significant interaction at the University of Texas.
Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, announced the details of Gandhi’s visit, which marks his first trip to the U.S. since assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
In a video statement, Pitroda revealed that there has been considerable interest from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academics, and others seeking interactions with Gandhi.
Gandhi’s itinerary includes a stop in Dallas on September 8, where he will meet with students and faculty at the University of Texas. The visit will also feature a community gathering, meetings with technocrats, and a dinner with local leaders.
Following Dallas, Gandhi will head to Washington D.C. for the remainder of his visit. There, he is expected to engage with think tanks, the National Press Club, and other key groups. Pitroda emphasised the wide range of planned events, reflecting the strong interest in Gandhi’s visit and the Congress party’s work in India.
The visit comes after Gandhi's significant electoral performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. He won two seats, Rae Bareli and Wayanad, although he has since resigned from the Wayanad seat. His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is anticipated to contest a bypoll for this seat.
Earlier this year, the Congress Working Committee appointed Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a role he now brings to the forefront during his U.S. visit.
