Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday declared that the slogan of “vote chor, gaddi chhor” is being proven across the country and vowed that the Congress will continue to demonstrate it in “more dramatic ways.”
Speaking during his visit to his Raebareli constituency, Gandhi said, “The main slogan ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhor’ is being proven across the country. We will prove it again and again in more and more dramatic ways.”
His remarks came as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest rally in Raebareli against him, accusing the Congress leader of making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during the recently concluded “voter adhikar yatra” in Bihar.
Carrying BJP flags and placards, party workers shouted slogans against Gandhi, prompting police to intervene and disperse the crowd. Authorities attempted to clear the roads after some protesters sat down to block traffic. Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh also joined the demonstration.
“We demand that Rahul Gandhi apologise to the nation,” Singh told.
During his visit, Gandhi was scheduled to hold meetings with booth-level workers of the Congress in Harchandpur and Unchahar constituencies.

He was also set to meet representatives from Prajapati Samaj at Shanti Grand Hotel and later unveil the Ashok Stambh in Sadar constituency at around 1:30 pm.
The Congress party has been intensifying its agitation against alleged electoral malpractices under the “vote chor, gaddi chhor” campaign.
In Chhattisgarh, the party’s in-charge Sachin Pilot called on those accused of “vote theft” to “leave the throne immediately.” Pilot said the campaign would be expanded across the state to raise awareness and pressure the government.
The move to step up protests follows the conclusion of Rahul Gandhi’s “vote adhikar yatra” in Bihar earlier this month.
Launched on August 17 from Sasaram in the presence of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav, the campaign travelled through 25 districts including Aurangabad, Gayaji and Siwan, covering more than 1,300 kilometres and around 110 assembly constituencies.
The yatra concluded on September 1 in Patna, where it was joined by Trinamool Congress leaders Yusuf Pathan and Lalitesh Pati Tripathi, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, and several other INDIA bloc leaders.
