Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, will appear before the MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa on August 6.
The Jharkhand High Court had directed him to appear in person in the case of alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2018.
Rahul Gandhi had challenged the order passed by the MP-MLA Special Court on June 2 in this case in the Jharkhand High Court. Earlier, the court had directed him to appear on June 26.
However, his advocate informed the court that Rahul Gandhi would not be able to appear on the scheduled date and requested the court to hear the matter on any date after June 6.
The court accepted the request and fixed the date of the next appearance as August 6.
A defamation case was registered against Rahul Gandhi for remarks made against BJP leaders during a public meeting held in Chaibasa in 2018.
In this case, he is now required to appear before the court on August 6.
