Veteran Congress leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member A.K. Antony has announced that there will indeed be a contender from the Gandhi family vying for either the Rae Bareli or Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking to a television channel on Thursday, Antony confirmed, "Yes, there will be one," when questioned about a member of the Gandhi family contesting from the traditional seat of the family.
When pressed further if the candidate would be Robert Vadra, Antony firmly stated, "it would be either Rahul or Priyanka."
Antony, a former Defence Minister and thrice Chief Minister of Kerala, noted the shifting dynamics of the political landscape, highlighting the growing confidence of the INDIA Bloc while remarking on the declining morale of the BJP-led NDA.
"Just look at the body language of the Prime Minister and it tells the tale…," Antony added.
Although retired, Antony continues to be actively involved in political affairs, visiting the state party headquarters daily. However, due to health reasons, he is yet to decide whether he will actively campaign for the Congress-led UDF candidates.
Notably, his son Anil Antony, is running as the BJP candidate in the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency.
