The Congress party’s leader Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have an “anti-Adivasi mindset,” alleging that both parties are trying to deprive the tribals of their basic rights of “jal, jangal aur zameen.” He made these remarks in a social media post after attending an event at Indira Bhawan organised by the Adivasi Congress.
During the event, the Leader of the Opposition offered his salutations to the legendary tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda, before he delivered his speech at the Adivasi Professionals Conclave 2026. He entered into lengthy discussions about the problems being faced by the tribal communities. In honour of him, Gandhi was offered the headwear of the tribes by the leader of the Adivasi Congress, Vikrant Bhuria.
According to Gandhi, who spoke through Facebook in Hindi, the Adivasi communities are the true custodians of India, as they embody the spirit and wisdom of the nation through its history. In criticising the BJP and the RSS for their attitude towards the Adivasi community, Gandhi argued that their view aims at reducing the indigenous status of the tribe by referring to it as “Vanvasi” rather than “Indigenous”. Emphasising his political ideology, Gandhi clarified that both him and Congress value the tribal communities greatly and would be ready for any fight in their defense.
