Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kolhapur on Saturday to participate in significant events ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled later this year.
One of the key events of his visit includes the unveiling of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Bhagwa Chowk.
The event is viewed as an important moment for the Congress party, with Kolhapur Congress President Satej Patil expressing pride in Gandhi's involvement and highlighting the historical contributions of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj to issues like reservations and inclusivity in the region.
Gandhi’s visit comes as the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), works to finalise its seat-sharing strategy for the Assembly polls.
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed that discussions on over 150 seats have taken place, with announcements expected before Dussehra.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut emphasised that every seat is being carefully reviewed to ensure the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the elections.
The MVA coalition, composed of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, and Congress, will face off against the BJP-led Maha Yuti Alliance, which includes the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar.
The 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly is set to see a heated contest, though the Election Commission has not yet announced the poll dates.
