Four relatives of a family belonging to Haryana's Rohtak district died in a horrific road accident late on Friday night when their car hit a parked truck near the Collectorate crossing in Dausa, Rajasthan, police reported on Saturday.
The victims — Deepanshu, his mother Pramila, sister Sakshi, and grandmother Rajbala — were on their way to the Mehandipur Balaji temple for a pilgrimage when the accident took place along National Highway 21. The impact left the car badly crushed and jammed into the back of the truck.
Local police from the Kotwali station reached the location after being informed of the incident, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Prakash Sharma. Emergency responders took the victims to the Dausa District Hospital in a hurry, where doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.
"Mishap late in the night at Collectorate chowk on NH-21, a car and a container collided killing four people — one man and three women, all belonging to the same family.
Initial reports indicate that they were going to Mehandipur Balaji for darshan," Deputy SP Sharma informed the news agency. "Investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the accident."
The effect of the crash generated massive traffic congestion on the busy road. The highway was subsequently cleared after authorities took away the wrecked vehicles by means of cranes. The truck and car that were involved in the accident are currently detained at the Sadar police station for the ongoing investigation.
Relatives of the victim arrived in Dausa on Saturday morning at about 10 a.m. The bodies will be released to the family after post-mortem and police formalities.
In an interview with the same news agency, Anand, a relative, confirmed that the victims were Deepanshu, his sister, mother, and grandmother.
"He had called someone around 9:30 p.m. and said they were around Alwar and on their way. We only heard about the accident later that night," Anand added. He also added that Deepanshu's father had died a few months back.
