The Bhajanlal government in Rajasthan is gearing up to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill. This move was confirmed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel during the budget session of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

While responding to a question posed by MLA Kalicharan, Minister Patel stated that the state government is actively considering the UCC bill and will bring it to the House at an appropriate time after considering all aspects.

This announcement aligns with recent statements from BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, who emphasised the need for a Uniform Civil Code to ensure 'one country, one law'. He expressed confidence that the UCC would be implemented soon and mentioned that he had raised this demand with the central government.

The idea of introducing the UCC bill in Rajasthan was first announced by Minister Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary in February. He had expressed admiration for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who had already introduced the bill in his state. Chaudhary emphasised the importance of the bill in establishing a uniform civil law for all citizens, regardless of their religion.

The introduction of the UCC bill has been seen as a significant step towards uniformity in civil laws across the country. Chaudhary highlighted that the people of India had been anticipating this development and that Rajasthan aims to be the second state, after Uttarakhand, to implement the UCC bill.

He mentioned that the Chief Minister supports this initiative and has given instructions to expedite the process. The bill will be discussed in the current session and, if time permits, it will be brought forward in the next session if necessary.

This move is part of a broader effort by the Rajasthan government to address and implement significant legislative changes. The introduction of the UCC bill is expected to be a major step in ensuring legal uniformity across different communities within the state. The government's decision is based on the belief that a uniform civil code will help in establishing a cohesive legal framework that applies to all citizens equally.

The Rajasthan government's approach is to carefully consider all aspects of the UCC bill before presenting it to the House. This includes understanding the potential impact on various communities and ensuring that the bill is comprehensive and inclusive. The government's intent is to introduce the bill at a time when it can be thoroughly discussed and evaluated by the legislative assembly.

The Bhajanlal government’s preparation to introduce the UCC bill in Rajasthan marks a significant legislative development. By taking this step, Rajasthan aims to follow Uttarakhand’s example and contribute to the broader national discourse on implementing a uniform civil code.

The government's commitment to this initiative reflects its dedication to creating a legal system that is fair and equitable for all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliations.
