The Rajasthan High Court’s Jodhpur bench has extended the interim bail for self-styled godman Asaram, who is currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor disciple. The interim bail, which was due to expire on August 12, has been extended until August 29.
A division bench comprising Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur granted the extension after reviewing Asaram's medical reports. This decision follows a recent extension of his interim bail by the Gujarat High Court in a separate case, which is valid until August 21.
Asaram is currently hospitalised in Indore, and his medical condition is reported to be critical. In light of his health report, the High Court has ordered the formation of a medical panel from a government hospital in Ahmedabad for a thorough examination. This panel is to include a cardiologist and a neurologist. The court has directed that the panel’s report be submitted by August 27, two days before the expiry of the extended bail period.
