Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani broke down in the House on Tuesday, accusing State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra of using abusive language against him.

The incident took place during an already tense Assembly session, which has been deadlocked for several days.

Expressing his deep distress, Devnani stated that in his five terms as a member of the Assembly, he had never experienced such humiliation.

He emphasised that he had always conducted himself impartially and found the allegations against him deeply hurtful. He further remarked that Dotasra’s behaviour was unbecoming of an MLA but left it to the House to decide.

The Assembly has been facing disruptions following controversial remarks made by a state Minister regarding former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The tensions escalated further when suspended Congress MLAs attempted to force their way into the House, leading to a confrontation with security personnel.

Outside the Assembly, Dotasra maintained that there was no agreement requiring his personal apology and pointed to internal disagreements within the government.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders staged a protest outside the Assembly in opposition to the suspension proceedings, adding to the political unrest.

The deadlock, which has lasted five days, began with the controversial remarks on Indira Gandhi. However, the situation deteriorated further when Dotasra refused to issue an apology in the House.

His alleged offensive remarks against the Speaker after Monday’s session only intensified the standoff, delaying negotiations on reinstating the six suspended Congress MLAs.
