Rajeev Shukla is poised to assume the role of interim President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as current President Roger Binny approaches the age cap stipulated in the board’s constitution. Shukla, who currently serves as the BCCI Vice President, is expected to step in temporarily for a period of three months until a formal election is held to appoint a new President.
Roger Binny, a former India cricketer and a key member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, will turn 70 on July 19 this year. Under the BCCI’s constitutional rules, 70 is the maximum age limit for office-bearers, making him ineligible to continue in the role beyond that date.
Sources said that once Binny’s term ends due to the age restriction, Rajeev Shukla will oversee the responsibilities of the BCCI President in an interim capacity. This arrangement ensures the continuity of administrative functions within the cricket board until the next official appointment is made.
Binny was elected BCCI President in 2022, succeeding former India captain Sourav Ganguly. As a cricketer, Binny had a distinguished career, representing India in 27 Test matches and 72 One Day Internationals (ODIs), during which he claimed a total of 124 wickets. His most notable achievement came during the 1983 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he emerged as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets from 8 matches—playing a crucial role in India’s historic title win.

Rajeev Shukla, who is now expected to step into the top position, has been serving as BCCI Vice President since 2020. He brings extensive administrative experience, having previously held the post of Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017 and serving as Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2018.
The upcoming months are expected to be crucial for the BCCI as it prepares for a leadership transition, with Shukla temporarily at the helm and elections for the full-time president expected to follow.
