Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to update him about the ongoing operations and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This follows the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 civilians were killed.

The meeting between Singh and Modi lasted about 40 minutes and was held behind closed doors. It took place while security forces in the region are stepping up operations, carrying out raids on the homes of terrorists and their supporters.

Before meeting the Prime Minister, Rajnath Singh visited South Block, where the Army Chief gave him a detailed report on the situation in Kashmir, especially in Pahalgam, which is now a focus area for security forces.

The terror attack on April 22 killed 25 tourists and one local resident from Kashmir. It caused anger across India and around the world. Indian authorities have said there are "cross-border links" to the attack and promised a strong and clear response.

On Sunday, during his 121st Mann ki Baat radio programme, Prime Minister Modi promised that justice would be served. He said, "Those who carried out and planned the Pahalgam attack will face the harshest punishment. The whole world stands with India’s 140 crore people in our fight against terrorism. I assure the families of the victims that justice will be done."

During the broadcast, Modi strongly condemned the attack, calling it a desperate move by enemies of Kashmir and India who want to stop the region’s progress.

He said the attack shows the frustration of those who support terrorism. Modi pointed out that as peace was returning to Kashmir — with schools and colleges becoming active, democracy growing stronger, tourism increasing, and new opportunities opening up for young people — the enemies of Jammu and Kashmir and India could not accept this. He warned that terrorists want to destroy Kashmir again.

Meanwhile, security forces have increased their operations on the ground, launching targeted raids against suspected terrorists and their networks across Jammu and Kashmir.
