Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait cited a conspiracy theory that targets the TMC government in West Bengal over the sexual assault and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, on Wednesday.
He further added that many other incidents have happened in the country, but this one is being highlighted as there is an opposition government there.
Tikait further said, “There is a CBI investigation happening in the case. What I had said was that many other incidents have happened in the country, but this one incident is being highlighted and TV channels have been showing this news for the last 8-10 days.
He further added, “Is it because it is the opposition(TMC) government in there (West Bengal)? Even links are being drawn to Punjab. Opposition CMs will remain in jail. But if the same people join the govt (BJP) then they become fine.”
Tikait’s remarks attracted criticism from BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed Rakesh Tikait over his remarks and said “This is the most shameful statement.”
Poonawalla further added, “This is the most shameful statement that somebody like Rakesh Tikait could make and that too after Rahul Gandhi says that the entire RG Kar Medical College rape and murder is a distraction.
He said, “He said it is a conspiracy against the government of Mamata Banerjee, that it is propaganda being done for the last 10 days.”
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday constituted a 10-member National Task Force to make recommendations on the prevention of violence and safe working conditions for medical professionals.
The task force includes Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, among others.
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, sparking nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community.
