The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Ram Madhav and G Kishan Reddy as the election-in-charge for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ram Madhav, who previously served as the BJP's national general secretary from 2014 to 2020, played a significant role in managing political affairs in Jammu and Kashmir during his tenure. He also handled key responsibilities in Assam and other northeastern states.
G Kishan Reddy, the current Minister of Coal and Mines and the MP from Secunderabad, will assist Ram Madhav in the planning and preparation for the elections.
These elections are notable as they are the first to be held in the Union Territories since 2014 and the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which revoked the special status of the erstwhile state.
The Election Commission has scheduled the elections in three phases. The first phase will take place on September 18, the second on September 25, and the third and final phase on October 1.
Jammu and Kashmir comprises 90 Assembly constituencies, of which 74 are designated as general seats, 9 reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 7 for Scheduled Castes (SC). The region has 87.09 lakh registered voters, including 44.46 lakh male and 42.62 lakh female electors.
The notification for the first phase of the polls was issued earlier this week, marking the beginning of a significant electoral process in the region.
