The pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Shrine concluded successfully with a record-breaking 5.12 lakh pilgrims visiting the Shrine, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday.
The pilgrimage to the Shrine of Amarnath, located at a height of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, commenced on June 29 and culminated on August 19.
"The pilgrims' holy yatra of Shri Amarnathji has ended peacefully. This year's pilgrimage lasted for 52 days, hosting a record number of pilgrims — over 5.12 lakh visited the shrine, the highest in the past 12 years," the Home Minister posted on X.
The Home Minister also lauded the role of the security personnel, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and voluntary organisations, in ensuring the success of the pilgrimage.
"In doing so, each one of you has made a unique contribution in making the pilgrimage of the pilgrims safe and smooth. May Baba’s blessings be on everyone. Jai Baba Barfani."
The pilgrims visited Amarnath through two routes — Baltal and Pahalgam — in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the cave shrine hosted over 4.5 lakh visitors last year.
This time, all arrangements for security, boarding and other yatra-related matters were made by the administration for the success of the pilgrimage.
Local support also made this year's yatra very memorable for the pilgrims.
