Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today informed that Rail Bhoomi portal will be launched to manage the complete process of land acquisition. He announced a series of construction reforms to help Indian Railways complete infrastructure projects faster and better.
During his live session on Tuesday, he also launched the new Rail Bhoomi portal to make land acquisition digital and easier to manage. The Railway Ministry has also introduced a digital system to replace the manual process used for land acquisition.
The Rail Bhoomi portal, championed by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, is a comprehensive web-based platform developed by CRIS to digitize and streamline the land acquisition process for Indian Railways. By bringing paper-heavy and manual processes entirely online, the portal is designed to speed up critical infrastructure projects.
Indian Railways will hand over land in planned phases so construction can move forward without unnecessary interruptions. Until now, Indian Railways handled land acquisition through manual, paper-based processes. But now, this Rail Bhoomi portal will bring the entire process online. The portal connects with railway systems such as IRPSM, IPAS and HRMS, allowing departments to share information more easily.
It will also help officials monitor progress of land acquisition, pending cases, compensation status, government notifications and statutory timelines. The portal includes dashboards and MIS reports that will help authorities track projects and speed up decision-making.
Briefing media in New Delhi on the reforms aimed at modernising Indian Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw said his ministry has brought several reforms, including in the construction sector. He said fertilizers can now be transported in containers.
The minister said that the fly ash generated in power plants will now be transported in containers so that its fine dust could not pollute the environment. He said, in sectors like Railways, cement and road construction, fly ash will be transported in containers. Vaishnaw also announced a unified licence system under the container policy.
Vaishnaw said Wagon design can now be done by the industry. He said that any designer or manufacturer can propose a new wagon design. He informed that after evaluating the design, the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) will give permission for the prototype. The Minister said this will enable special design wagons for specific industry needs.
On skill certification framework for railway projects, Mr Vaishnaw said that this system will be implemented across all projects in a maximum of 24 months. He said, when large scale infrastructure creation work is underway in the country, it is important that plumbers, welders, fitters, masons, concrete testers and all other workers are well trained.
