October 15 marked 93rd the Birth Anniversary of Indian aerospace scientist, statesman, and 11th President of India, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam BR.
Kalam is also known as the 'Missile Man of India' for his contributions to India’s space and missile programmes. As India's 11th president, Abdul Kalam left an indelible mark on the field of education, and his legacy continues to motivate students worldwide.
Marking Kalam's invaluable contributions to education and his inspiring role as a statesman for the younger generation, the United Nations designated October 15 as World Students Day.
The significance of World Students' Day lies in its emphasis on education's transformative power. It encourages students to strive for excellence, fostering a culture of lifelong learning and social responsibility.
APJ Abdul Kalam played a crucial role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, which marked the country's second nuclear test since the inaugural test in 1974. As the scientific adviser to the defence minister and head of the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Kalam's organisational, technical, and political expertise was instrumental in the success of the operation.
APJ Abdul Kalam, fondly known as the People's President, made some tough decisions during his tenure from 2002 to 2007. He once mentioned that signing the Office of Profit Bill was the most challenging decision he had to make. However, Kalam faced criticism for not acting on 20 out of 21 mercy petitions submitted to him.
