Captain Vikram Batra (13 JAK Rifles)

 

Captain Vikram Batra's legendary bravery and leadership during the Kargil War have become etched in Indian history. Despite suffering injuries, he fearlessly led his team to reclaim the strategic Point 4875, embodying the spirit of unwavering courage and determination. His iconic declaration, "Ye dil mange more!" ("This heart desires more!"), has become a rallying cry for patriotism and valor. In recognition of his extraordinary heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor, a testament to his enduring legacy as a national hero.

 

 

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey (1/11 Gorkha Rifles)

 

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey's exceptional leadership and unwavering courage played a pivotal role in the successful clearance of enemy positions. His inspiring actions, marked by unrelenting bravery and selflessness, left an indelible mark on the battlefield. In recognition of his extraordinary valor, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor, a testament to his enduring legacy as a hero of the Kargil War.

 

 

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav (18 Grenadiers)

 

At just 19 years old, Yadav's remarkable display of courage and valor at Tiger Hill inspired a nation. Despite suffering severe injuries, he refused to yield, continuing to fight with unwavering determination and helping the Indian Army secure crucial enemy bunkers. His extraordinary bravery and selflessness were posthumously recognized with the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor, cementing his legacy as a hero of the Kargil War.

 

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar (13 JAK Rifles)

 

Sanjay Kumar's extraordinary display of courage and resilience at Point 4875 will be etched in history forever. Despite suffering multiple injuries, he continued to fight with unyielding determination, his bravery and selflessness ultimately leading to a decisive victory. His heroic actions that day earned him the nation's highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra, a testament to his unwavering commitment to protecting his country.

 

 

Major Rajesh Adhikari (18 Grenadiers)

 

Rajesh Adhikari displayed extraordinary valor as he spearheaded a daring mission to capture a heavily fortified bunker at Tololing. Severely wounded, he refused to yield, continuing to fight with unrelenting resolve until his last breath. His remarkable display of courage and sacrifice was posthumously honored with the Maha Vir Chakra, a testament to his unwavering dedication and bravery.

 

 

Captain Anuj Nayyar (17 Jat Regiment)

 

Nayyar's valiant efforts were instrumental in securing the strategic Pimple Complex, a crucial victory for the Indian Army. His remarkable bravery and sacrifice were recognized with the prestigious Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest military honor, awarded posthumously in his memory.

 

 

Naik Digendra Kumar (2nd battalion of the Rajputana Rifles)

 

Securing Pt 4590 at Tololing Hill earned him Mahavir Chakra.   

 

Digendra Kumar, a distinguished former soldier, served in the 2nd battalion of the Rajputana Rifles regiment of the Indian Army. Born on July 3, 1969, he demonstrated exceptional courage during the Kargil War, earning him the prestigious Maha Vir Chakra award on August 15, 1999. Kumar's remarkable acts of bravery left a lasting impact on his regiment. He went on to serve with honor until his retirement on July 31, 2005

 

 

Captain Haneef Uddin (11 Raj Rif)

 

After being commissioned into the Army Service Corps, the logistics arm of the Indian Army, on June 7, 1997, he began his military journey. For his initial field experience, he was assigned to 11 Raj Rif, an infantry battalion. Before the Kargil conflict, he served in the Siachen region, and later, his battalion was deployed to Turtuk in Ladakh during the war, where he played a significant role in the military operations, Earning Vik Chakra posthumously. 

 

 

 

Major Vivek Gupta (2 Raj Rif)

 

Efforts in recapturing point 4590 at Tololing Peak earned him Mahavir Chakra. 

 

Major Vivek Gupta, MVC (January 2, 1970 - June 13, 1999), was a brave officer in the Indian Army who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War (Operation Vijay). For his exceptional courage and selflessness, he was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest wartime military honor. He served with distinction in the 2nd battalion of the Rajputana Rifles (2 Raj Rif), leaving behind a legacy of valor and patriotism.

 

Colonel Sonam Wangchuk

 

Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, a decorated Indian Army veteran, served with distinction in the Assam Regiment and the Ladakh Scouts. His exceptional bravery during the Kargil War earned him the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest gallantry award. As a Major, he led a successful operation that showcased his remarkable courage and leadership skills, earning him the revered nickname "Lion of Ladakh" within the Indian Army.
