The young male tiger that was rescued from inside the house of a villager in Ranchi district of Jharkhand on Wednesday was finally released by Forest Department officials at an undisclosed location in the Palamu Tiger Reserve on Thursday.
The tiger, which had been tranquillised before its rescue in the Silli area on the Jharkhand–West Bengal border, had refused the food provided by forest staff, officials said. However, upon release, it ran towards the forest, likely in search of food, they added.
In a dramatic turn of events, the tiger had entered the house of one Puranchandra Mahto in the Silli area of Ranchi district at around 4:30 am on Wednesday. Mahto, who was inside with his two daughters, was terrified and shifted to another room.
After spending about half an hour in fear, he somehow managed to get out of the house and shut the front door. He then informed the police and forest officials. Meanwhile, a crowd began to gather after hearing the news of the tiger’s presence.
In view of the large crowd at the site, the Ranchi district administration imposed prohibitory orders in the area to ensure that the tiger was not harmed and could be safely rescued.
Later, after several hours of effort, forest department teams from Ranchi and Palamu Tiger Reserve tranquillised and rescued the tiger. It was transported to PTR in a rescue van following a health check-up.
