Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed optimism about coordinating Parliament's proceedings as the 18th Lok Sabha convened for its first session.
In a statement on social media platform X, Rijiju extended a warm welcome to the newly elected members and assured his availability to assist them in his capacity as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
"The 18th Lok Sabha's inaugural session commences today, June 24, 2024. I extend a warm welcome to all newly elected Hon'ble members. As Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, I stand ready to assist all members. I look forward to ensuring effective coordination for smooth functioning of the house," Rijiju remarked.
During the next two days, members of the Lok Sabha are slated to take their oaths or affirmations under the guidance of Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab and a panel of chairpersons.
On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha will convene to elect its Speaker.
President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to address a joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Thursday, outlining the agenda of the NDA government for the upcoming five years.
Subsequently, both Houses will deliberate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to respond on July 2-3.
