Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday travelled from Jaipur to Ajmer to offer a ceremonial 'chadar' sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 'Urs' of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
"The prime minister's message is one of brotherhood and national unity," Rijiju told mediapersons at Jaipur airport.
"I am going to Ajmer Dargah with this message," he emphasised.
Before departing for Ajmer by road, the minister was received at the airport by BJP’s state minority morcha leaders.
Rijiju will present the 'chadar' at the shrine and read out PM Modi’s message, which calls for fostering a peaceful atmosphere in the country.
"On this auspicious occasion of Urs, we want to create a positive environment in the country. No one should engage in actions that can disturb the harmony of our nation," Rijiju added.
The minister further stated that the dargah welcomes people from all faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis, Buddhists, and Jains.
"Lakhs of people visit the dargah, and we want them to face no difficulties. The process should be simple, and new improvements are being introduced," he said.
Rijiju was asked about a petition in a local court asserting that the dargah was built on the site of a Shiva temple.
"I have just come to offer a 'chadar'," he replied. "I am not here to discuss or show anything. I bring the PM's message for unity and goodwill among all people of our country."
In November, a local court in Ajmer had admitted the petition and issued notices to the Ajmer Dargah Committee, the Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the Archaeological Survey of India.
Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta, who filed the petition, had urged the Prime Minister not to send a 'chadar' this year.
The 'Urs' is held annually at the Ajmer Dargah to commemorate the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
The Prime Minister has traditionally sent a 'chadar' to the shrine on this occasion.
