Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras resigned from his position on Tuesday, citing injustice by the BJP towards his Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) in the seat-sharing deal for the Bihar Lok Sabha polls.
Paras's decision came shortly after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced its seat-sharing pact, allocating five seats to the faction led by Chirag Paswan, son of late Ram Vilas Paswan, sidelining Paras's faction.
At a press conference, Paras expressed his displeasure over the treatment meted out to his party and himself, emphasizing the injustice despite his party's loyalty and dedication to the NDA.
The RLJP president, acknowledging Prime Minister Modi as a significant leader, expressed gratitude towards him while highlighting the unfair treatment faced by his party.
While Paras did not divulge his future plans, RLJP spokesperson Shravan Agarwal confirmed that Paras would contest the elections, indicating a determination to pursue political activities despite the setback.
Despite enjoying the support of five out of six RLJP Lok Sabha MPs until recently, Paras stood alone at the press conference, suggesting a potential fracture within the party's ranks.
Reports suggest that some RLJP MPs are exploring alternative options, including alliances with other parties, such as Chirag Paswan's faction, for the upcoming polls.
In response to the snub from the NDA, Paras may seek collaboration with the opposition alliance led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar, possibly to contest against his nephew in the Hajipur seat, a stronghold of the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
Paras, who currently represents Hajipur in the Lok Sabha, faces the challenge of securing his political stronghold against the aspirations of his nephew, Chirag Paswan.
As the political landscape in Bihar undergoes dynamic shifts, Paras's resignation and potential realignment underscore the complex interplay of alliances and ambitions shaping the upcoming elections.
