The Rouse Avenue Court has taken cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI against BRS leader K Kavitha in the Delhi Excise Policy case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, after reviewing the supplementary charge sheet, has directed the police to produce Kavitha before the court through video conferencing on July 26 at 2 PM. Meanwhile, the court has extended the judicial custody of Manish Sisodia and the other accused until the same date.
The court has also instructed that a copy of the supplementary charge sheet be provided to the counsel for K Kavitha and the other accused. The matter has been scheduled for scrutiny of documents on the next hearing date.
The court had previously reserved its order on the cognizance of the charge sheet on July 8. Advocate DP Singh argued that the cognizance of the offence had already been taken and emphasised that the policy in question was influenced by the South Group, with all key individuals working under Kavitha’s command.
Singh presented statements from TDP MP Magunta S Reddy and his son Raghav Magunta, who confirmed their meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other significant details.
Singh also mentioned that several statements from individuals like Sarath Reddy, Gopi Kumaran, and Raghav Magunta would ultimately implicate Kavitha. The advocate clarified that while the offence's cognizance had been taken, this charge sheet serves the limited purpose of consideration and summoning of the accused.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed this charge sheet against K Kavitha on June 6, marking the third supplementary charge sheet in the Delhi Excise Policy case. K Kavitha is currently in judicial custody for both CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases.
She was initially arrested by the ED on March 15, followed by her arrest by the CBI on April 11. The hearing on her default bail plea has been deferred to August 5.
