RSS denies rift with BJP over delayed presidential poll

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has dismissed speculations of any disagreement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the delay in the party's presidential election.

No tension between RSS and BJP on leadership election.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has dismissed speculations of any disagreement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the delay in the party's presidential election.

Speaking at the All India Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision-making body of the RSS, the organisation's joint general secretary, Arun Kumar, affirmed that there is no friction between the two entities.

He clarified that the BJP has full autonomy to elect its president and that the RSS collaborates with the party on issues related to national interest and nation-building.

The BJP's presidential election, initially planned for January, has been postponed, resulting in the continuation of JP Nadda as the party's president on an extended term.

When asked about the delay, Kumar assured that the BJP's organisational election process is ongoing and that the leadership selection would occur in due time. He urged patience, suggesting that the situation would become clearer soon.

Kumar also addressed the structure of the RSS and its relationship with its affiliates. He explained that all 32 RSS-affiliated organisations operate independently, each having its own internal mechanisms for elections and decision-making.

This separation of functioning, according to Kumar, allows each body to maintain its distinct identity while working collectively on matters of national importance.

Responding to questions about the RSS's role in recommending candidates for the BJP's leadership, Kumar noted that if the BJP seeks suggestions for a suitable "swayamsevak" (volunteer), the RSS would consider the request, provided a suitable individual is available.

This remark highlighted the cooperative yet independent relationship between the two organisations.

The delay in the BJP's presidential election has generated curiosity within political circles, particularly given the crucial role the party's leadership plays in shaping its direction ahead of significant elections.

However, the RSS's assurance of no discord with the BJP suggests that the election process will proceed smoothly in the near future.

The RSS and the BJP have a long-standing relationship, rooted in shared ideological principles. However, the RSS maintains that its focus remains primarily on societal and cultural development, while the BJP manages its political affairs.

This balance allows the organisations to collaborate while respecting their distinct spheres of influence.
