RSS Meeting Focuses On Cultural Identity And Modernity.

The recent two-day Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal Baithak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) concluded in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, emphasising the importance of adopting a ‘Swa’-based lifestyle alongside modern development. This significant gathering took place at the Deendayal Gau Vigyan Anusandhan evam Prashikshan Kendra, located in Gaugram Parkham, Mathura.

During a press conference held on the final day of the meeting, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale spoke about the essence of ‘Swa,’ which reflects the fragrance of the soil.

He drew parallels to Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of Swarajya, explaining that ‘Swa’ encompasses not just freedom but also the essence of national identity.

According to him, it is crucial to embrace one’s traditions and civilization while also being mindful of modernity. He emphasised that as society advances, it must not lose sight of its roots and cultural identity.

Dattatreya Hosabale highlighted that this year marks the 300th anniversary of Punyashloka Ahilyabai Holkar, a prominent historical figure in Indian governance.

He pointed out that the achievements of women like her in effectively running the government demonstrate the longstanding capability of women in public service.

The discussions during the Baithak also revolved around the RSS's commitment to personality development, which remains an ongoing priority for the organisation.

The RSS has been actively seeking to expand its outreach and engage with new ideas and individuals from various backgrounds. The meeting covered the strategies for connecting with different age groups and fostering community involvement among swayamsevaks. This initiative aims to rejuvenate the organisation’s activities as it approaches its centenary year, having completed 99 years of service.

One of the key focuses during the Baithak was the preparation for the upcoming Vijayadashami celebrations. The RSS plans to engage with the public on topics surrounding Panch Parivartan, which includes adopting a Swa-based lifestyle, promoting social harmony, encouraging family enlightenment, and fostering environmental awareness and civic responsibility. These themes will guide the RSS’s outreach efforts in the coming months.

The expansion of RSS shakhas, or branches, was another topic of discussion. Currently, there are 72,354 shakhas operating across 45,411 locations, marking an increase from the previous year.

The organisation also reported a rise in weekly meetings, further indicating its growing presence in communities nationwide. In places where shakhas do not exist, the RSS is implementing monthly Sangh Mandali activities to maintain engagement.

In response to recent disasters, the RSS has demonstrated its commitment to community service. During the floods in West Bengal, swayamsevaks provided aid to 25,000 individuals, while similar efforts were made in Odisha and Karnataka.

These initiatives included distributing food and medical assistance, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to supporting affected communities. The RSS has also performed last rites for deceased individuals, regardless of their religious backgrounds, showcasing its inclusive approach.

Dattatreya Hosabale addressed concerns about substance abuse, stressing the importance of cultural values, education, and health. He also responded to questions about the internet and media, advocating for freedom of speech while calling for regulations to ensure social responsibility. He acknowledged the importance of cultural values in shaping society's perceptions and interactions.

On the topic of the recent situation in Bangladesh, he urged Hindus there to remain steadfast, asserting that it is their homeland. He expressed that the Hindu community should not feel the need to migrate but instead find strength in their roots.

As for the contentious issue of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, he reiterated that the matter is currently in the courts and that the society, not the organisation, should determine the outcome. The RSS remains committed to standing alongside the community, ensuring that their sentiments are respected.
