India will progress without compromising its Indianness says Jaishankar.

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has emphasised that the country will not allow others to influence or dictate its choices, asserting that it will act in its national interest and for the global good without succumbing to external pressure.

Speaking through a video message at an event in Mumbai, he underlined India’s resolve to uphold its independence in decision-making.

The minister stressed that independence should never be mistaken for neutrality. He noted that India has the capability and confidence to shape its destiny without conforming to external expectations. This approach, he said, reflects India's strength and maturity as a global player.

Jaishankar also touched upon India's deep-rooted civilisation and heritage, stating that the country must progress while maintaining its identity and traditions.

According to him, technology and tradition should coexist harmoniously, particularly in the era of globalisation. He said India's unique identity as a civilisation state equips it with cultural strengths that must be leveraged effectively on the global stage.

He was speaking on the occasion of being conferred the 27th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award.

The awards, named after the revered seer of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, recognise excellence in various fields, including public leadership, science, and spiritualism.

In his remarks, Jaishankar highlighted that India has demonstrated its ability to address long-standing challenges such as poverty and inequality while emerging as a strong voice for the global south.

He pointed out that the country's deepening democracy has enabled more authentic voices to shape its identity and policies.

He also called for greater awareness of India's rich heritage, particularly among the younger generation, as this understanding is essential for the nation's cultural and societal development. This renewed focus on heritage, combined with India's progress, positions it to play a leading role in a multipolar world.
