Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The event, hosted by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, saw spiritual discourses, music performances, and religious rituals.
During the gathering, Sadhguru praised Shah, likening his efforts to those of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He said Shah’s work reflected Patel’s role in unifying the nation after Partition.
“Since the Partition, many developments have taken place where, though India was one nation on paper, certain parts were not entirely under the control of the ruling dispensation. I have to say our present home minister, in some way, is doing what Sardar Patel did back then—once again stitching up the nation,” Sadhguru said.
Amit Shah addressed the gathering, extending his greetings on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
“I bow down at the feet of Adiyogi. I feel fortunate to be here at the invitation of Sadhguru. Today, from Somnath to Kedarnath, from Pashupatinath to Rameswaram, and from Kashi to Coimbatore, the entire country is filled with Shiva’s presence. The Maha Kumbh is concluding in Prayagraj, and here, I witness another Maha Kumbh of devotion,” Shah said.
He lauded the Isha Yoga Centre for its contribution to spirituality and well-being.
“This place is not just a pilgrimage site; it is a centre for yoga, sadhana, devotion, and liberation. The Isha Yoga Centre has brought positivity into many lives. The Adiyogi statue here represents the 112 pathways to spiritual awakening. Visiting this place reminds us that the ultimate goal of life is to attain ‘Shivatva’,” he added.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also attended the celebrations. Earlier, he met Sadhguru at his residence and later posted on social media about the meeting.
“I had the pleasure of meeting Sadhguru today at my home office. He invited our family to attend the programme at Isha Yoga Centre as part of Mahashivratri celebrations. I look forward to participating in this grand spiritual event,” Shivakumar wrote on X.
Union Minister L. Murugan was also present at the event.
Midnight Mahamantra and Meditation App
For the first time, Sadhguru offered a midnight Mahamantra initiation. The chant “Om Namah Shivaya” is believed to bring ultimate well-being, according to a release by the Isha Foundation.
Additionally, Sadhguru unveiled a new meditation app called Miracle of the Mind. The app features a seven-minute guided meditation designed to help individuals establish a simple but effective daily practice.
Cultural Performances and All-Night Celebrations

The event featured performances by renowned artists, including Ajay-Atul, Muktidan Gadhvi, Paraox, CassMae, Sounds of Isha, and Isha Samskriti. Multi-regional artists also participated, keeping the audience engaged throughout the night.
Mahashivratri, known as the "Great Night of Shiva," is considered one of the most significant festivals in Hindu tradition. It marks the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is believed to be an auspicious time for spiritual growth and inner transformation.
