The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Monday without conducting significant business following uproarious protests from opposition members over issues ranging from violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal to allegations against prominent businessman Gautam Adani in a US court.
When the House reconvened at noon, opposition members raised slogans demanding probes into the matters, disrupting proceedings.
Presiding BJP member Sandhya Ray remarked on the members' reluctance to allow the House to function before adjourning it until Wednesday.
The session had earlier been adjourned until noon after paying homage to deceased members, including two sitting MPs who were elected this year.
Following the adjournment, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal said, "I think the responsibility to run the house is on the ruling party. They cannot blame it on the opposition alone. The opposition has the right to ask and ruling party every time before every session, whichever topic the opposition raises, the ruling party refuses to allow a discussion on that for a week, 10 days due to which there's a washout."
On Tuesday, Parliament will hold a commemorative event in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption by the Constituent Assembly, launching year-long celebrations.
