Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Sampurnanand Stadium in Varanasi on October 20. The new sports complex, located in the Sigra area, has been developed under the Khelo India initiative and aims to provide world-class facilities for athletes.
This stadium, built to international standards, is expected to be a significant boost for the development of sports and athletes in the Purvanchal region.
The stadium is designed to accommodate a variety of sports, with facilities for over 50 different games. These include judo, karate, table tennis, shooting, lawn tennis, cricket, and hockey.
The infrastructure has been built to international specifications, ensuring that the venue can host competitions of global standards. In addition to the sports facilities, the complex also includes a 150-room hostel for players. This hostel is equipped with modern amenities to provide athletes with a comfortable and conducive environment to train and stay.
The inauguration of the Sampurnanand Stadium is not only a step towards promoting sports in Varanasi but also a significant milestone for the broader Purvanchal region.
By providing state-of-the-art facilities, the government aims to nurture local talent and enable young athletes to develop their skills and compete on national and international stages. Prime Minister Modi has been actively involved in the project, having reviewed the progress of the stadium on June 18.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm about the stadium. He shared that the new sports complex would significantly benefit the youth of Kashi (Varanasi), offering them an excellent platform to engage in sports and pursue their athletic ambitions.
On another note, Prime Minister Modi departed for a two-day visit to Laos on Thursday morning. He is attending the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit in Vientiane.
