Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is set to officially move into his designated residence at 5 Desh Ratna Marg on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami. The shift is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m., marking a significant moment for the state's political landscape.

This move comes after months of political tension and controversy surrounding the bungalow, which is now once again being utilised for its intended purpose.

The controversy initially sparked when BJP leaders in Bihar accused the previous occupants, associated with the RJD, of replacing the air conditioners and sofas in the bungalow with older, less functional ones.

These claims fueled a political row, with the former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav threatening legal action against those making the allegations. The situation, however, seems to have settled down as Samrat Choudhary prepares to take residence.

BJP state spokesperson Arvind Kumar Singh highlighted the Deputy CM's plans to transform the use of the bungalow into a more public-oriented space.

He emphasised that Samrat Choudhary intends to make the residence accessible to the people of Bihar, creating a platform where citizens can directly address their concerns. This stands in stark contrast to the previous use of the residence, which had been criticised for being an exclusive and luxurious space.

The bungalow has a long history of being at the centre of political attention. When Tejashwi Yadav first took on the role of Deputy Chief Minister in 2015, the property underwent extensive renovations.

These upgrades, which reportedly cost crores of rupees, turned the official residence into a space resembling a five-star hotel. This lavish spending led to sharp criticism from various quarters, including the late Sushil Kumar Modi, the then-Deputy Chief Minister. He had raised concerns about the unnecessary use of public funds for the extravagant makeover of the residence.

Following the change in government in 2024, Tejashwi Yadav received an official notice to vacate the bungalow. Although he initially resisted, he eventually vacated the property seven months after receiving the notice.

The bungalow has since returned to the limelight with Samrat Choudhary's impending move. This transition symbolises not only a change in residence but also a shift in approach, as the new Deputy Chief Minister aims to engage more directly with the public from his official residence.
