SC's Art 370 verdict not God’s order, can be reversed: Omar

During a rally in Kishtwar, Amit Shah said that Article 370 is history now, and now it will never be part of the Indian constitution in the future. Shah also attacked the NC, PDP, and Congress for using Article 370 as a shield to promote terrorism and fuel anti-India sentiments, particularly in the Kashmir valley.

National Conference vice president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Tuesday, said that the verdict given by the Supreme Court in December 2023 on Article 370 can be reversed by the larger bench in the future.

He then said that nothing is impossible, it was not the decision of God but the people sitting in the parliament.

While reacting sharply to the comments made by Home Minister Amit Shah, Omar said, “Three previous decisions taken by the Supreme Court have been changed by the three-judge bench, and they can also be changed by the seven-judge bench in the future."

Before HM, Prime Minister Modi also accused the NC, PDP, and Congress of being dynastic political parties and alleged that the three parties had caused widespread corruption in the erstwhile state.

Omar said that the home minister should focus on the current security situation in Jammu, where terrorism is on the rise.

“You can blame us for the reasons where we are responsible, but the Centre has been directly ruling J&K for the last ten years; now who is responsible for the situation in Jammu?” he asked.

Article 370 has been a major issue for the political parties in J&K, where one side led by NC promises to work for the restoration of the statehood, and Article 370, whereas its alliance partner Congress has assured their support for the restoration of the statehood while remaining silent on the issue of Article 370.

On the other hand, the BJP has maintained its rhetoric that they are never allowing the return of Article 370.

Unemployment, development, drug-related issues, poor electricity supplies, and high inflation, despite being prevailing issues, remain in the hindsight of the political campaigns.
