Two terrorists were killed and an Army soldier and a policeman were injured in an encounter that's still continuing in the Hadipora area of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, a senior police officer has confirmed.

The police officer told a news outlet that the slain men were yet to be identified.

The encounter began when a joint security forces team were conducting search operations near a suspected hideout and discovered the suspected terrorists who opened fire.

More updates are expected.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, security forces intensified search operations in the Maraha Forest area of the Bufliaz Sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after gunshots were heard on Tuesday.

This development follows an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the district earlier in the day.

"A cordon and search operation was initiated by security forces in the Poonch district based on specific information about terrorists in the area. There was an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces," J-K Police said on Tuesday.

The operation is being conducted to locate and neutralise the suspected terrorists. Security forces are maintaining a tight perimeter and conducting thorough searches in the dense forest area to ensure the safety and security of the region's residents. Further updates on the situation are expected as the operation progresses.

Terrorists and security forces exchanged fire in the Surankote area of Poonch district on Tuesday. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police came under heavy fire during a search operation.

Official reports said as the joint parties of security forces and police closed in on the location, terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce firefight.

“A cordon and search operation was initiated by security forces in the Poonch district based on specific information about terrorists in the area. There was an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces,” said a J&K police official.

This confrontation follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent directive to security agencies to implement an area dominance plan and a zero-terror strategy in Jammu amid a spate of terrorist attacks in the region.

On Monday, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan reviewed the security situation in the Jammu and Udhampur areas and assessed the operational preparedness of the security forces.

He was briefed by top army commanders, including the Northern Army Commander and the General Officer Commanding (GoC).

The past week has seen a surge in terrorist activities, with four attacks resulting in 10 deaths, including those of CRPF personnel and two terrorists, and injuries to 50 others across the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts.

In another incident on June 11, five soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were injured when terrorists attacked a joint checkpost in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road.
