Massive search operations are continuing on Friday at multiple locations after security forces exchanged fire with terrorists twice on Thursday in the Lathi area of the Rajouri district in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.
An additional DG of police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain added, "A joint operation by security forces was launched in villages Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal after midnight, near about 9:30 pm, on receipt of information about suspicious movement in these areas.
"At about 9:45 pm, during the search operation, contact was established with the terrorists and an exchange of fire took place at said place. Further details are being waited," said ADGP Jain.
Another official said contact with the terrorists was re-established around midnight when they opened fire on the search parties, which led to another exchange of firing. After some time, the firing stopped and the area was cordoned off by security forces.
Lt Col Bartwal, PRO Defence Jammu Division, informed reporters that a major search operation was continuing in the dense Rajouri forests with the deployment of technical equipment to trace the terrorists and monitor the operation.”
"Though no contact has been established with the terrorists since the early hours of Thursday, area domination exercises are on in the Lathi and Danthal areas, with the situation under close monitoring," he added.
The entire range of forests has been cordoned off to neutralise these terrorists, although the thick mountainous terrain with dense foliage makes any operation difficult and dangerous.
