After sealing a seat-sharing deal with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for the upcoming general elections, the Congress said on Friday that alliance with the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal is still on track.
Sources claim that the TMC and the Congress have derived at a consensus to share seats for the Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister had vehemently disagreed with the number of seats demanded by the Congress in the state. Hence, the deal cannot be cracked.
However, this time, sources have claimed that the TMC has agreed to give five seats to the Congress out of 42 Lok Sabha seats. Last time, reportedly, the Congress had asked for six seats which irked the TMC supremo, leading to declaration of no alliance with the Congress in the state.
Sources claimed that the TMC is bargaining with the Congress to get seats in Assam and Meghalaya in return for the seats it was offering to them in West Bengal.
While interacting with reporters at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said that talks were on with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee but the alliance has not been finalised yet.
He also added that the pact with the Aam Aadmi Party will be finalised within a couple of days. Ramesh also said that talks were on with all INDIA bloc parties, including National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam too .
