Second bomb threat to Bombay HC turns out to be hoax

After receiving the alert, Mumbai Police promptly arrived at the High Court and conducted detailed searches in and around the premises, but found no suspicious objects.

This fresh bomb threat comes exactly a week after the Bombay high court had received a similar threat which was declared a hoax.

The Bombay High Court on Friday received a bomb threat email, the second in a week, which turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search, an official said.

An email about a bomb blast in the court premises in south Mumbai was received on the official ID early in the morning, he said. Teams from the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and dog squad carried out a complete search, but nothing suspicious was found, the official said.

The court began functioning according to its regular timing, he said. The high court had received a similar threat email on September 12, which led to the suspension of hearings for a few hours. The police had registered a case against unidentified persons at the time.

Police officials confirmed that the threat mail is being investigated and efforts are underway to trace its source. Despite the threat, the court resumed its proceedings on time and functioned as per routine. Security around the High Court has been tightened as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, a few days ago Bombay High Court received a bomb threat, where lawyers, litigants, and staff were escorted out as security agencies—including bomb disposal squads, fire officials, and dog units—launched a comprehensive search of the premises. Two fire brigade vehicles, two ambulances, and a bomb disposal vehicle were stationed inside as a precaution.

As the court building remained evacuated for screening, those displaced waited calmly on the lawns, with several using the time to have lunch.

Proceedings resumed at 2:30 p.m. after the Delhi Police declared the threat a hoax. “We have investigated the email, and it turned out to be false. There is no connection between this threat and the bomb threats received by schools in the last few weeks,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla.
