16 Naxals killed in ongoing clash at Chhattisgarh-Odisha border.

In a significant operation along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, 16 Naxals were killed in a fierce encounter with the Chhattisgarh police on Monday.

The encounter, which is still ongoing, has raised concern about the rising tensions in the region, as more details are expected to emerge.

The police reported that among the casualties, one of the Naxals had a bounty of 1 crore rupees on his head, highlighting the gravity of the encounter.

The deadly clash follows a series of violent incidents in the region involving Naxal groups. On January 17, two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were injured when Naxals detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district.

The IED blast occurred as a BSF road-opening party was on duty between Camp Garpa and Garpa village.

Local authorities, including Narayanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Prabhat Kumar, confirmed the attack, and further information is expected to be released soon.

The violence continued in mid-January when two CRPF jawans were injured in a pressure IED blast near Putkel village, under the Basaguda police station in Bijapur district.

This attack, which took place on January 16, was yet another example of the ongoing conflict between security forces and Naxal insurgents in the region.

Earlier, on January 12, a major encounter between security forces and Naxals resulted in the deaths of five Naxalites, including two women, in Bijapur district.

The security forces also seized several weapons and explosives from the Naxals, including automatic rifles, a 12-bore rifle, and a BGL launcher.

The recovered arms were found in the forests of the National Park area under the Bijapur district, a known hotspot for Naxal activity.

In a statement, IG Bastar P Sundarraj confirmed that the bodies of 12 Naxals, including five women, were recovered after the January 16 encounter.

He also noted the seizure of a large number of arms and ammunition, which the authorities believe will help disrupt Naxal operations in the region.

Sundarraj assured the public that security forces are committed to continuing their efforts to combat Naxalism and restore peace to the South Bastar region.
