Three terrorists are suspected to have been neutralised when security forces clashed with two groups of infiltrators in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said on Thursday.
Counter-infiltration operations are underway in the Tangdhar and Machhil sectors of the border district.
One terrorist is believed to have been killed in Tangdhar, while two terrorists have been killed in Machhil, close to the LoC.
The first one was thwarted in the Tad area of the Tangdhar sector when joint forces noted suspicious movement near the LoC.
The Tangdhar operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about likely infiltration attempts, the Army said.
"Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 28-29 August in the general area of Tangdhar, Kupwara.
One terrorist is likely to have been neutralised," the Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
Joint forces carried out another counter-infiltration operation in the Machhil sector during the night.
"Based on intelligence inputs with respect to likely infiltration bids, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 28-29 August in the general area of Machhil, Kupwara.
Suspicious movement in bad weather was observed and was engaged in effective firing by our troops; two terrorists are likely to have been neutralised," said the Army.
The gun fights are on when Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for Assembly polls after a gap of ten years.
