Seven killed in Pune road crash involving two vehicles

At least seven individuals were killed in a road accident between a sedan and a pick-up truck in Maharashtra's Pune district on Wednesday, police informed.

At least seven individuals were killed in a road accident between a sedan and a pick-up truck in Maharashtra's Pune district on Wednesday, police informed.

 

The accident took place on the Jejuri–Morgaon road. 

 

"Seven individuals died in a road accident on Jejuri–Morgaon road of Pune district. The accident occurred between a sedan and a pick-up truck. Further details are awaited," stated Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Singh Gill.

 

The incident comes on the heels of several other fatal accidents in the Pune district over the past few days.

 

On 15 June, four individuals died after a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed. The bridge collapse on Sunday afternoon injured 51 individuals, reported Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi.

 

A total of 51 individuals are injured and admitted to various hospitals, undergoing treatment, and four individuals have died. Three of them were identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, and one was male but unknown," said Dudi.

 

He said that the accident took place around 3:15 pm and that the authorities were informed by 3:30 pm. "A total of about 250 people came here right away. The rescue mission began, and till now we have managed to rescue around 38 people," Dudi said.

 

Earlier on 12 June, a 29-year-old woman died and her father-in-law was injured after a truck hit their scooter at Gangadham Chowk in Pune.

 

The accident took place at about 11:15 AM when a truck with registration number MH 14 AS 8852 hit a scooter from behind as the two-wheeler was proceeding forward after the traffic light turned green," a police official stated.

 

The incidents are being probed by the authorities. Road safety continues to be a pressing issue in the area, with numerous fatalities in quick succession.
