Severe heatwave forecast: Punjab, Haryana on alert

Punjab's Heatwave Alert: SDMA Warns of Severe Conditions.


Punjab's State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) issued a warning concerning the prevailing heatwave conditions, forecasting severe heatwave conditions until June 17th, 1:30 PM.

 

Residents are advised to remain indoors and avoid outdoor activities between 12 PM to 3 PM. Additionally, covering the head when outside and staying hydrated are recommended measures.

 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the continuation of the heatwave in Uttar Pradesh until June 18th and in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi until June 17th.

 

Over the past 24 hours, various regions in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and other states experienced heatwave to severe heatwave conditions.

 

Temperatures soared between 44-46°C in many areas, significantly above normal for this time of year. Kanpur IAF in East Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest maximum temperature at 46.3°C across the country.

 

In Punjab, Abohar recorded scorching temperatures, reaching a high of 47.6 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh also experienced blistering heat, with the mercury touching 44 degrees Celsius.

 

Cities in Punjab and Haryana endured intense heat, with temperatures exceeding 44°C. Gurdaspur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Patiala at 45.2 degrees Celsius. Amritsar and Ludhiana also experienced sweltering heat at 44.8 degrees Celsius and 44.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

 

In Haryana, cities like Faridabad, Nuh, Rohtak, and Sirsa witnessed scorching temperatures, with readings touching 45.8°C in Faridabad and Nuh. Hisar sweltered at 44.6 degrees Celsius, while Mahendragarh recorded a high of 44 degrees Celsius.

 

Hot weather conditions persisted in Gurugram, Ambala, and Karnal, with temperatures ranging from 44 to 44.5 degrees Celsius.

 

The authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this intense heatwave, including staying indoors during peak hours, keeping hydrated, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities.
