The all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met with the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, on Thursday. Tharoor shared details of the meeting on X, highlighting that the discussions covered a range of important topics including counter-terrorism efforts and boosting technological cooperation between India and the US.
In his post on X, Tharoor wrote, “Excellent meeting with Vice President @JDVance today in Washington D.C. with our delegation. We had comprehensive discussions covering a wide array of critical issues, from counter-terrorism efforts to enhancing technological cooperation. A truly constructive & productive exchange for strengthening India-US strategic partnership, with a great meeting of minds. #IndiaUS #Diplomacy #StrategicPartnership.”
The delegation, led by Shashi Tharoor, includes members from various political parties: Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, and Bhubaneswar Kalita (all from the BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
This all-party group arrived in the US after completing a visit to Brazil. Their main objective is to brief key US stakeholders on Operation Sindoor, India’s diplomatic initiative launched in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to combat terrorism and counter misinformation.
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy, on June 4, the delegation met with the leadership of the House Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans in the 119th Congress. The meeting included co-chairs Representative Ro Khanna and Representative Rich McCormick, as well as vice co-chairs Representative Andy Barr and Representative Marc Veasey.
The delegation also participated in a high-level meeting with the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC), hosted by Committee Chairman Representative Brian Mast and Ranking Member Representative Gregory Meeks. Other key attendees included HFAC’s South and Central Asia Subcommittee Chairman Representative Bill Huizenga, Ranking Member Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove, as well as HFAC’s East Asia & Pacific Subcommittee Chairperson Representative Young Kim and Ranking Member Representative Ami Bera.
In a separate engagement, members of the delegation met with Representative Lisa McClain, Chairwoman of the House Republican Conference for the 119th Congress, who is the highest-ranking woman in Congress. The delegation also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in the US.
During these interactions, members of the Indian diaspora expressed their solidarity with the victims of terrorism and conveyed strong support for India’s ongoing efforts to fight terrorism.
