Shiv Sena UBT MP Arvind Sawant: Maharashtra Elections Shouldn't Be In Single Phase.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant has expressed concerns regarding the Election Commission of India's (ECI) recent announcement of the poll schedule for Maharashtra.

According to the ECI, Maharashtra will hold its assembly elections in a single phase, while Jharkhand will conduct its elections in two phases. Sawant pointed out the discrepancy, noting that Maharashtra has 288 assembly seats, compared to only 81 constituencies in Jharkhand.

Speaking to the media, Sawant questioned the rationale behind this decision, saying, “The Election Commission has announced election dates, but it seems unusual that there are two phases for 81 seats in Jharkhand and just one phase for 288 seats in Maharashtra. I don’t understand what is the reason behind such an arrangement.”

Despite his concerns about the polling schedule, Sawant remains confident in the opposition alliance, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), claiming that they will contest the elections with “full strength.”

He believes the people of Maharashtra have shown their discontent with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in previous elections, and this sentiment will be reflected in the upcoming polls.

“Maha Vikas Aghadi will fight the election with full strength. The people taught them (the BJP) a lesson in the Lok Sabha elections, and this time, they are very upset. All their anger will come out in the elections. I am confident that Maha Vikas Aghadi will win with a huge majority,” Sawant stated.

The polling dates are set for November 13 and 20 in Jharkhand, with Maharashtra voting on November 20. The results for both states will be counted on November 23.

In the recent parliamentary elections for 48 seats in Maharashtra, the MVA performed well, securing 30 seats while the ruling Mahayuti alliance’s share fell to just 9 seats, down from 23 five years ago. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats while the Congress secured 44.
