In the ongoing 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship, Shiva Thapa and Sachin Siwach continued their remarkable performances, securing spots in the quarterfinals with impressive victories on Day 4 of the competition.
Thapa, representing Assam in the Welterweight category (60-65kg), showcased his unyielding dominance by delivering a 5-0 victory over Himanshu Sangwan. Thapa’s commanding performance further strengthened his position as a top contender in the tournament.
Similarly, former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach was in outstanding form, winning his bout against Kingson Pukhrambam of Manipur with the same 5-0 margin. His convincing win cemented his place in the next round of the competition.
Another athlete who impressed on the day was Devendra Solanki of Rajasthan. Competing in the Flyweight category (47-50kg), Solanki continued his impressive run in the championship, claiming his third consecutive win.
He defeated Zorammuana of Mizoram with a unanimous decision, advancing to the quarterfinals and establishing himself as one to watch.
The tournament also witnessed a significant upset, as Abhinash Jamwal of Himachal Pradesh triumphed over the highly-ranked 2022 Youth World Boxing Champion Vanshaj Kumar of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).
Jamwal’s stunning 5-0 victory marked a pivotal moment in the competition, propelling him into the quarterfinals in grand style.
In other bouts, Punjab’s Gopi halted Govind Sahani’s strong campaign in the Flyweight category. Gopi secured a victory in Round 3, effectively ending Sahani’s journey in the competition.
Sahani, a Strandja Memorial silver medallist, was previously seen as a promising contender, making this win particularly noteworthy for Gopi.
Meanwhile, Bhanu Prakash from Andhra Pradesh put on a dominant display, securing a knockout victory over Umesh Chavan of Goa, which propelled him into the next round.
His performance has caught the attention of boxing enthusiasts, and he will be looking to build on his success in the coming rounds.
The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) continued to assert its dominance throughout the championship. In addition to Sachin, Hitesh Gulia (Light Middleweight), Deepak (Welterweight), Jugnoo (Cruiserweight), and Vishal (Heavyweight) all triumphed in their respective bouts, earning their places in the quarterfinals.
