The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said in the Rajya Sabha that all three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack were eliminated by being 'shot in the head' during 'Operation Mahadev,' which took place on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Shah provided details of the intelligence and operational efforts that led to the terrorists' demise. He stated that approximately a month after the Pahalgam attack, authorities received intelligence regarding the presence of the terrorists. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI) subsequently verified their identities, and by July 22, the task of tracking their wireless communications was completed, allowing for their 'exact, pinpointed location' to be identified.
The Home Minister also shared a personal note regarding public sentiment. He mentioned receiving messages from people across the country expressing a desire for the terrorists to be 'shot in the head' once apprehended. Shah remarked on the 'coincidence that during the encounter, all three were shot in the head.'
During his address, Shah directly challenged senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram. He stated that Chidambaram had, two days prior, demanded his resignation and questioned whether there was proof that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack, which prompted 'Operation Sindoor,' were Pakistani. Responding to Chidambaram, Shah retorted, “I want to ask Chidambaram, who were you trying to protect? Pakistan, Lashkar-e-Taiba, these terrorists? Aren’t you ashamed? Look at what Mahadev did. The very day he asked the question, all three terrorists were eliminated.”

This heated exchange in Parliament followed a significant political controversy ignited by P Chidambaram. Hours before the Parliament began a debate on 'Operation Sindoor' on Monday, Chidambaram, in an interview, had speculated about the possibility of "homegrown terrorists" being involved in the Pahalgam attack.
Chidambaram later clarified his remarks, asserting that they were part of a larger statement that his accusers had deliberately suppressed. On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “Trolls are of different kinds and use different tools to spread misinformation. The worst kind is a troll who suppresses the full recorded interview, takes two sentences, mutes some words, and paints the speaker in a black colour!”
