The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by one week in 12 states and union territories. This provides voters with extra time to verify and correct their details before the final rolls are published ahead of forthcoming elections.
The affected states and UTs are: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. This new directive supersedes the ECI’s previous schedule for the Special Intensive Revision.
The Commission has revised key milestones as follows:
- Enumeration Period: Extended to 11 December 2025 (Thursday)
- Rationalisation and Re-arrangement of Polling Stations: By 11 December 2025 (Thursday)
- Updation of Control Table and Draft Roll Preparation: 12–15 December 2025 (Friday to Monday)
- Publication of Draft Electoral Roll: 16 December 2025 (Tuesday)
- Period for Filing Claims and Objections: 16 December 2025 to 15 January 2026 (Thursday)
- Notice Phase (Issuance, Hearing & Verification): 16 December 2025 to 7 February 2026 (Saturday), during which Election Returning Officers (EROs) will concurrently address claims, objections, and enumeration forms.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a key initiative by the Election Commission of India to ensure the electoral rolls are accurate, current, and truly reflect all eligible voters—especially with important state assembly elections approaching.
The one-week extension gives citizens in the listed states and union territories more time to check their voter details, raise objections, or rectify errors in their entries. Election officials have urged residents to make full use of this additional period, stressing that getting their names correctly registered now is essential to securing their right to vote in the upcoming polls.
