Six Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended in Delhi for violating the conditions of their double-entry visas during a special verification drive conducted under Operation VISTA 1.0 (Visa Status Verification), officials said on Sunday.

 

The operation, carried out by the Foreigner Cell of the Special Staff in the Central district, was launched to identify foreign nationals overstaying in the national capital or violating visa conditions and to initiate legal action against them.

 

Officials said the six Bangladeshi nationals were found staying beyond the maximum permissible period of 15 days allowed for each visit under their double-entry visas. The violations came to light during inspections at hotels and guest houses across the Central district.

 

During a verification drive at a hotel on Arakashan Road in Nabi Karim, officials located the six foreign nationals and examined their passports, visas and immigration records. The scrutiny revealed that although their visas remained valid, each visit under the visa permitted a maximum stay of only 15 days. However, all six had exceeded the authorised duration without obtaining an extension or approval from the competent authority.

 

The six were detained and produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which initiated legal proceedings under the applicable provisions governing visa violations and the stay of foreign nationals in India.

 

The FRRO subsequently issued Restriction Orders, directing that the six be shifted to the detention centre at Sewa Dham in Shahzada Bagh, Sarai Rohilla, where they will remain until the completion of deportation formalities.

 

According to investigators, the six had entered India legally on valid double-entry visas and were staying at Hotel Sarthak Place in Central Delhi when they were identified during the verification exercise.

 

Police said Operation VISTA 1.0 forms part of an ongoing enforcement drive to ensure compliance with visa regulations and detect foreign nationals overstaying or breaching visa conditions. Teams conducted extensive verification at hotels, guest houses and other establishments accommodating foreign visitors across the district.

 

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Inspector Sandeep Yadav, in charge of the Special Staff, Central district, under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Padam Singh Rana.
