In a historic first, four esteemed units of the Indian Air Force (IAF) are poised to receive the prestigious 'President's Standard and Colours' from President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Hindan air base on March 8, marking a significant milestone in the annals of the IAF's history.

The defense ministry announced that President Murmu will bestow the President's Standard upon the 45 Squadron and 221 Squadron, while the President's Colours will be conferred upon the 11 Base Repair Depot and 509 Signal unit.

This unprecedented occasion marks the first time in the IAF's history that four units will be simultaneously awarded the President's Standard and Colours, the highest military honor bestowed upon armed forces units.

Among the honored units is the 221 Squadron, affectionately known as the 'Valiants,' with a storied history dating back to its establishment on February 14, 1963. The squadron's commendable contributions during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, particularly in the Eastern theater, have cemented its place in IAF's legacy.

Similarly, the 45 Squadron, aptly named the 'Flying Daggers,' has demonstrated unwavering valor and professionalism since its inception in 1959. Noteworthy for its pivotal role in 'Operation Vijay' and its instrumental air defense missions during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the squadron exemplifies the IAF's commitment to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.

The 11 Base Repair Depot, established in April 1974, stands as the premier fighter aircraft base repair depot of the IAF. Over the years, it has played a vital role in overhauling various aircraft models, including the Su-7, MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-29, underscoring its indispensable contribution to the IAF's operational readiness.

Meanwhile, the 509 Signal unit, established in 1965, has been instrumental in air defense operations, particularly during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Notably, it played a pivotal role in orchestrating precision strikes, underscoring its pivotal role in safeguarding national security.

As these distinguished units prepare to receive their well-deserved accolades, the ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the valor, dedication, and unwavering commitment exhibited by the Indian Air Force in safeguarding the nation's skies and sovereignty.
