The Congress party is set to convene its Parliamentary Party general body meeting on July 31 at 10 am in Central Hall. This meeting will be presided over by Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP).

In a dramatic political statement, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, recently compared the current political climate to the ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata. He criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its handling of the Union Budget, alleging that it has created an environment of fear across the nation. Gandhi argued that India is now ensnared in a “Chakravyuh of lotus,” using the BJP’s symbol of the lotus as a metaphor for his claims.

During his address in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi expressed deep concerns about the impact of the Union Budget 2024 on various segments of society, including farmers, workers, and youth.

He suggested that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has created a modern-day version of the Chakravyuh, a battle formation from the Mahabharata that ultimately led to the death of Abhimanyu, a heroic figure trapped by enemies.

Gandhi elaborated on his comparison by drawing a parallel between the ancient formation and the current political situation in India. He described the new “Chakravyuh” as being symbolically represented by the lotus and suggested that it is being used to trap and exploit the common people, much like Abhimanyu was trapped in the epic.

According to Gandhi, today’s “Chakravyuh” is controlled by six key figures: Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, and business magnates Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

He further criticised the recent budget, asserting that it has disadvantaged the middle class, which had previously shown enthusiastic support for Modi’s policies. Gandhi condemned the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for failing to address the issue of paper leaks, which he labelled as a major problem affecting the youth.

He highlighted that there have been numerous cases of paper leaks over the past decade, suggesting that this issue has been overlooked in the budget discussion.

The forthcoming Parliamentary Party meeting is expected to address these and other critical issues as the Congress seeks to regroup and strategize ahead of future political challenges.

The meeting, chaired by Sonia Gandhi, will likely be a platform for the party to deliberate on its position and responses to recent criticisms and policy developments.

The Congress party’s meeting on July 31 will be a significant event for the party, coming at a time of intense political scrutiny and debate. Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements reflect ongoing tensions and criticisms directed at the current government’s policies and handling of key national issues.
