In a gruesome incident, a Spanish woman on a bike tour with her husband was allegedly gangraped in Dumka district of Jharkhand in the wee hours of Saturday. Police have arrested three people after reporting the incident.
The incident took place near Kurumahat Bazar under Hansdiha Police Station in Dumka on March 2. Police officials said that the woman, who was en route to Bhagalpur in Bihar via Dumka, fixed her tent near Kurumahat Bazar around midnight and slept there.
Police said that when the woman was sleeping in the tent, some unidentified youth entered her tent and raped her one by one. Apart from being sexually abused, she was also beaten up by the miscreants, police said.
On receiving information, Dumka SP Pitamber Singh Kherwar reached the spot and started an investigation in the case. An FIR has been registered at Hansdiha Police Station, and police have detained three people till the time of filing this report. Kherwar said that a hunt is on to nab the accused, as 8 to 10 people were involved in the crime.
The woman has been admitted to the nearby Saraiyahat Community Health Centre for treatment.
She was on way to Nepal from India with her husband on her bike. The couple had reached Pakistan from Spain, then Bangladesh, and had entered India by bike from Bangladesh.
Godda MP Nishikant Dubey blamed the state government for the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.
