In a shocking incident, a senior Finance Ministry official was killed and his wife critically injured after a speeding BMW collided with their motorcycle in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Navjot Singh, who was serving as deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance.
The incident occurred when the couple was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. Navjot Singh was rushed to Newlife Hospital in GTB Nagar, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His wife is receiving treatment and remains in a very serious condition.
Police reported receiving multiple calls about a traffic jam in the area and, upon arriving at the scene, found a BMW positioned sideways with the motorcycle lying near the divider. Eyewitnesses informed police that a woman was driving the car, accompanied by her husband. The couple later arranged a taxi to transport the injured to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family questioned why the injured were taken to a hospital in GTB Nagar, approximately 17 km away. The couple’s son, Navnoor Singh, alleged that his parents were deliberately taken to a hospital linked to the accused.

“I had just come from a friend’s house when I got a message from my mother that she was going to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, but she did not pick up my call. Later, I got a call from a family friend who told me about the accident and that my parents were admitted to New Life Hospital. The accident happened around 1 or 1.30 pm. A girl driving a BMW hit my parents’ motorcycle,” he said.
He added that his father could have been saved if he had been taken to a nearby superspeciality hospital or AIIMS instead of a facility lacking advanced trauma care.
“There was definitely something wrong. My parents were taken in a delivery van. When my mother gained consciousness, she was in the passenger seat and looked back to see my father lying down. People there said that death instantly after an accident is very rare. But they took them to a hospital 20 km away, which belonged to the girl driving the BMW. Her husband was also admitted to the same hospital,” Navnoor alleged.
